Developmental Psychologists

Developmental psychologists study how people age over time. A developmental psychologist focuses in on how the behavior of the individual changes throughout the course of a person’s life. A developmental psychologist will be looking to find patterns in thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and behaviors, as a person progresses to the different stages of life. Developmental psychologists look to see what it is that make people who they are. So this means that developmental psychologists will be looking to see what role genetics plays in who a person becomes. Developmental psychologists are also looking to see what toll the environment takes on determining who an individual will become.

A developmental psychologist is not limited to small children. Developmental psychologists also study the growth patterns and stages of adulthood. A developmental psychologist may also have a concentration in studying the growth of those that are developmentally disabled. A developmental psychologist is not just studying to make data recordings, but developmental psychologists are looking for ways that they can improve the quality of life through the way that we age and mature. For instance, a developmental psychologist that studies patterns in adulthood, these developmental psychologists are looking for ways that adults can expand their independence as far into the elderly stage, as possible.

Developmental psychologists mostly conduct research. A developmental psychologist works to pinpoint when it is that a person moves on to that next phase in their lives. A developmental psychologist looks to see what are the factors that influences a person to mature to the next stage of their lives. Developmental psychologists are looking to see exactly leads to abnormal behavior within an individual. A developmental psychologist will look to see if this type of behavior is something that developed over time, or if it is something that seemed to appear almost suddenly. A developmental psychologist will perform psychoanalytic studies in order to develop these conclusions.
