Social psychology is an industry of psychology that is on the rise. Social psychologists deal with how an individual relates to other individuals or groups. A large portion of the career of a social psychologist involves studying. Social psychologists frequently participate in case studies so that they may study how it is that people interact with each other. In addition, a social psychologist also studies exactly how it is that their patients interact with each other. Social psychologists may have a background that is predominantly based in psychology or in the field of psychology. Either way, social psychologists must have the state licensing required background in both areas of study in order to practice.

If the primary focus of the social psychologist is in the field of psychology, a social psychologist will look to see how the thoughts and feelings of one individual is influenced by the behavior of others. This in turn, causes the individual to act off of the people that they are around at the present moment. Social psychologist also see how the situation that a person is placed in widely affects their thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Social psychologists then study the behaviors that are initiated as a result of the people around them, and the situation that they are placed in. Social psychologists are looking to find patterns in the attitudes that are formed, the aggression level, and the actions that one takes on the basis of social influence.

For social psychologists that place their career focus primarily on the field of sociology, the social psychologist will typically aim their studies on the interaction within a group. Social psychologists with a larger concentration in sociology will be looking to see how a group interacts with each other. This is a social psychologist that is interested in how the members of the group decide to work off of each other. The social psychologist will be looking to determine how it is that the dynamics within a group change over the course of time. Social psychologists that have a focus in sociology will pay special attention to classifications. The social psychologist will be looking to see the dynamics of interactions amongst groups, while documenting the specific distinctions, such as race, gender, and class. A social psychologist with a focus in sociology will commonly use surveys as a recording method in order to draw upon their conclusions.
